Organization is in full swing for a schedule full of events and initiatives that will reconfirm a successful tourist season at the island of Elba in 2021
Island of Elba (Tuscany) – The Island of Elba, the large “capital” island of the Tuscan Archipelago that was the favourite holiday destinations of Italians despite a challenging 2020, is now looking ahead to the next 12 months and is getting ready for two major events that will make it even more attractive.
2021 will be a year in the spotlight for the island, which will celebrate Napoleon Bonaparte’s bicentenary and will host the UCI MTB Marathon World Championships, in addition to countless initiatives dedicated to outdoor activities. The two iconic events will attract and engage even more visitors.
“For the bicentenary of Napoleon’s death, the goal is to organize a ‘Napoleon Week’ which shall become a recurring annual event, for an ‘edutainment’ style holiday rich in history and culture,” said Niccolò Censi, Coordinator of GAT (the official tourist promotion organization). “We are already in contact with important associations such as the European Federation of Napoleonic Cities and Route Napoleon, which are also busy organizing events within this important anniversary. 2021 will also be a year dedicated to sport: on October 2nd, the UCI MTB Marathon World Championships will be held on the island, and other cycling and outdoor sports will be celebrated in May and then again in October within the Elba Sport Fest, an event that allow guests, – amateurs and professionals – to try out different sports followed by personal trainers. Introduction sessions will be held for adults and children, where sports champions will disclose their secrets in an informal way, perhaps over a glass of wine.”
