The island of Elba, also known as “the island of sport”, is one of the most exciting destinations for sports professionals and enthusiasts, but also for families or groups of friends.
A favourite destination for the retreat of international teams, Elba is one of the best places for biking, from Cross Country to road cycling. It is possible both to rent a bike on the island, or bring your own, by ferry.
Families can just use the bike or e-bike to go to the beach or for daily excursions. The most intrepid, can even practice downhill, with the proper precautions. For groups of friends, a recommended experience is to rent a bike and spend a day at the Capoliveri Bike Park.
DIVING E SNORKELING
Would you like to take scuba diving classes? Diving and snorkeling offer many surprises: sometimes, even a swim with mask and snorkel can be an unforgettable experience. If you are more expert, you should not miss the underwater excursion at the Elviscott wreck.
TREKKING, HIKING AND EXCURSIONS
Enchanting landscapes, hiking paths in the nature, to discove hidden places and an incredibile biodiversity. We cam expect all of that from a simple excursion on the island of Elba. The numerous hiking paths of the Italian Alpine Club can meet any need and level of difficulty. The scenarios are very diverse: lunar landscapes on the eastern side, immense plains of granite on the west, and the hightest peak of the island, Monte Capanna, the place where nature shows all its potential, a legendary route, the Great Elban Crossing, that runs across the whole island.
SURF, WINDSURF E STAND-UP PADDLE
Elba is exposed to all the main windds, that’s why, every day, you can go hunting for the perfect wave. Surfing and Windsurfing, unlike SUP, (do not remember that they are difficult or impracticable) are sports that require a certain experience; it is possible to take lessons, for the less experienced, at the numerous sailing centers also present on the most popular beaches.
KAYAK AND CANOEING
Among the most popular sports you can practice on Elba, Kayaking and Canoeing, are pure fun in contact with nature. You can just take short trips around the beach, or longer, rowing excursions, to explore some stretches of the Elban coasts. In this case, if you are not an expert, make sure you ask for information about weather forecast, tides, currents etc.
And if you find a quite beach or a little islet, you can spend half day in tranquility and then row back home – tired but happy!
Around the island, there are several bolted routes installed by the Italian Federation of Free Climbing (FASI – Federazione Arrampicata Sportiva Italiana), but not all of them will be open for the summer season 2022. At the moment, there are no active guides on the island, but here is the list of the most popular: Madonna del Monte; San Bartolomeo – near Chiessi; Freccia – near Pomonte; Costa del Sole, between Secchetto and Fetovaia; San Francesco Severo on Mount Perone; the Ginepro crag; the Ginepro cave on the Costa dei Gabbiani, where you also find the Remaiolo crag; the Pirates Bay; Mount Cote on Mount Capanne; Mount Giove around Marciana.
If you are looking for a holiday destination where you can practice sports or simply relax, Elba is the place for you!
